Promo Codes

Promo codes allow event organizers to offer discounts to their attendees and boost conversions when running marketing campaigns. This article includes:

Per Ticket Promo Codes

Per ticket promo codes apply a discount to each individual ticket purchased as opposed to the entire order. Per ticket promo codes can apply to all ticket types or be further limited to specific ticket types for more targeted discounting.

Apply to All Ticket Types

Discount Amount: Specify a flat dollar amount or percentage off each ticket.

  • # Tickets per Order: The number of tickets per order that the discount can be applied to. For any number of tickets per order, set this to 0.
  • Minimum # Tickets: The minimum number of tickets a customer must purchase in order to receive the discount (used for group discounts).
  • Maximum Total # Tickets: The maximum number of tickets that this promo code can be applied to across all orders.

Apply Individually to Selected Tickets

Discount Amount: Specify a flat dollar amount or percentage off each ticket.

  • Minimum # Tickets: The minimum number of tickets a customer must purchase in order to receive the discount (used for group discounts).
  • # Tickets per Order: The number of tickets per order that the discount can be applied to. For any number of tickets per order, set this to 0.
  • Usage Limit: Determines how many total uses of this discount are for this specific ticket type allowed. Example: If you only want to allow a maximum of 100 tickets to receive this promo code, set this to 100.

Per Order Promo Codes

  • Discount Amount: Specify a flat dollar amount or percentage off each order.
  • Minimum # Tickets: The minimum number of tickets a customer must purchase in order to receive the discount (used for group discounts)
  • Maximum Total # Orders: The maximum number of orders this promo code can be applied to.

BOGO Promo Codes

BOGO promo codes allow you to set up custom rules around buying a certain amount of tickets and receiving a discount. Example: ‘Buy 1 GA, Get 1 GA 100% off’ or ‘Buy 3 GA, Get 1 Parking 50% off’.

  • Maximum # Orders: The maximum number of orders that this promo code can be applied to.
  • Buy/Get Quantity/Type: Allows you to specify how your BOGO discount works. In this example, if the customer buys two VIP tickets, the discount will be applied to one basic ticket
  • Is this rule active? If the rule is active, customers will be able to use the promo code to receive the discount
  • Discount Percentage: Determines what discount will be applied to the "Get" ticket. ex) For buy two, get one free, the discount percentage would be 100%. For buy one, get one half off, the discount would be 50%. *Note: BOGO promo codes can only discount a % and not a flat amount.
  • # Tickets per Order: Determines how many tickets per order the BOGO discount can be applied to. Enter 0 to allow this discount to be applied to an unlimited number of tickets per order. This number counts how many "Get" tickets the discount can be applied to. For example, say you have a buy one get one free discount and the # Tickets per order is set to 2. Then a customer using the promo code who bought more than two tickets could still only get two tickets free.

Limiting a Promo Code by Date & Time

If you’d like a promo code to only be active between certain dates and times, scroll to the bottom of your promo code and click "Limit the Promo Code to a specific date/time range".

  1. Start Date: The date when the promo code becomes active. Choose a date from the pop-up calendar, or type one manually using the MM/DD/YYYY format.
  2. From: The time on the start date when the promo code becomes active. Click the clock icon to use the time selector, or enter the time in HH:MM PM format.
  3. Until: The time on the end date when the promo code becomes inactive. Click the clock icon to use the time selector, or enter the time in HH:MM PM format.
  4. End Date: The date when the promo code becomes inactive. Choose a date from the pop-up calendar, or type one manually using the MM/DD/YYYY format.

*If you decide you do not want to use the date/time limitation feature, select Allow the Promo Code to be used any time

Bulk Uploading Promo Codes

If you want to create more than one promo code at a time, you can use the Add multiple promo codes option under the promo code name when creating a new code. When you're creating a promo code, click "Add multiple promo codes" under the name.

  1. Enter the list of codes you want to create with the codes separated by a comma, semi-colon, or new line
  2. Continue setting up your promo codes as detailed above

When creating multiple promo codes at once, all of the codes will have the same settings. This can be useful if you want to create unique promo codes so that people can’t share the code with others.

Automatically Apply a Promo Code via URL / Link

If you want to create a link with a promo code that automatically applies to the customer’s order, you can add "?promo=CODE" to the end of your Tickets page URL. Replace ‘CODE’ with whatever promo code you’d like to apply.

When somebody visits the URL, the promo code will automatically be applied to their order.

*NOTE: The link must go to the tickets page and cannot be applied on the event page. The URL must contain /tickets in order for the promo code to be applied.

Setting Up Group Discounts

You can set up a group discount using the Minimum # Tickets setting. This setting determines the minimum number of tickets which have to be purchased in order to use the promo code.

For example, if you wanted to offer a group discount for purchases of four or more tickets, you would set this to "4".

Promo Code Reporting

To view promo code performance, you can download a specific Promo Code Totals report from Dashboards & Reports > Downloadable Reports.

This report contains promo code usage data including:

  • Number of orders a promo code was used on
  • Total number of tickets it was used on
  • Specific types of tickets it was used on
  • Gross sales generated from that promo code
  • Total discount received across all orders that used that promo code

You can also view promo codes per order in the All Order Details report or the All Tickets & All Order Details report.
